MP3: Lonesome Tuesdays
The amazing Ben Todd, (also known by the trade name of Lonesome Shack) is playing this Tuesday at Cafe Racer. In fact he plays every Tuesday and it's fantastic. Lonseome Shack is old-time country blues--some of the recordings sound as though they've come off a long-lost Folkways comp. It's simple, timeless music without pretense, irony or kitsch. The music is genuine and he's a real talent, so you should definitely come see him play if you're around. Also, the similarly amazing Rick Sabo usually plays a few songs at the end of the evening (after Ben's second set). He is definitely worth seeing; he plays a unique brand of deliberately arranged instrumental guitar. It's hard to put to words, but the songs have a really strong melodic sense and are almost Django-esque.
"Lonesome Desert.Rattlesnake" by Lonesome Shack
"Three" by Rick Sabo.
